What is an orthodontic treatment?

An orthodontic treatment is used to correct the position and alignment of teeth for improved function and appearance. An orthodontic appliance applies gentle pressure to gradually move teeth into the desired position.

Correcting protruding, crooked teeth or out of place teeth with an orthodontic treatment has multiple advantages. More regular teeth can improve oral health, make eating more enjoyable, enhance your smile and boost your self-confidence.  Orthodontic treatments can improve multiple dental issues including:

• Closing gaps and uneven spacing between teeth
• Improving crowding – when there are too many teeth in one area
• Correcting over and underbite – where teeth are too far forward or too far back
• Correcting crossbite and open bite – where the upper and lower teeth are misaligned when biting

What orthodontic treatments are available?

Fixed or removable orthodontic appliances are used to apply gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws to gradually improve their position and alignment.

An orthodontic treatment may last a few months to a few years and typically takes two forms:

Aligners — virtually invisible removable plastic appliances worn over your teeth
