What is a dental bridge?

A bridge is a fixed replacement for missing teeth that takes support from teeth on either side of the gap. A conventional bridge is comprised of a prosthetic tooth is fixed between two crowns that are bonded to the adjacent teeth.

Adhesive bridges are reliant on modern adhesive dental techniques and require minimal preparation to the surrounding teeth.

A dental bridge is virtually undetectable, as it can be made to match the appearance of your existing teeth. You will regain normal eating function and a full smile.

What is the treatment for a dental bridge?

A dental bridge treatment is generally completed over two appointments. Your dentist will first prepare the supporting teeth next to the missing tooth.

For a conventional bridge, the adjacent teeth will be shaped to receive crowns which support the bridge. Adhesive bridges require less preparation to adjacent teeth.

Impressions of your teeth will then be taken, from which the crowns and bridge will be fabricated. Our dental laboratory will then custom make the new bridge to match your natural teeth for shade and shape as closely as possible.  Porcelain is a popular choice for its natural tooth colour.

At your next appointment, your permanent bridge will be set in place.

Is a dental bridge right for me?

When you have missing teeth, a dental bridge treatment relies on the integrity of adjacent healthy teeth. If you have already had dental restoration work or gum issues, your dentist may consider other treatment options.
